Epsom salt takes its name from a spring near the town of Epsom in the English county of Surrey. Today it is obtained mainly by mining, not by distillation from mineral water. 

Epsom salt is a compound of magnesium and sulphate. It is made up of small, colourless crystals that visually resemble table salt. Magnesium plays an important role in the body, supporting muscle and nerve function and helping to produce the hormone responsible for feelings of happiness - serotonin. 

You will feel the beneficial effects of the bath after the first try - it relaxes the nervous system, helps heal skin problems, relieves muscle tension and helps rid the body of harmful substances. The bath also helps soothe foot pain, relieves swelling, and softens hardened skin on the heels. After the bath, you will feel like a newborn in every way.

Use of Epsom salt

Bath

If you want to release tension and reduce stress after a busy day, add one or two cups of Epsom salt to your bath and relax for at least 20 minutes. Not only will your muscles relax, but it also contributes to mental relaxation.

For a detox bath, add at least two cups of Epsom salt to the water and relax for 40 minutes. In the first 20 minutes, the body will get rid of toxins, while in the next 20 minutes the minerals from the water will be absorbed. It is necessary to drink water before the bath to avoid dehydration and to make the detoxification as effective as possible.

Cosmetics

Epsom salt can also be used for other purposes. It can be used to make a scrub to help reduce cellulite on the buttocks and thighs or added to a cleansing gel and used on the face. It rejuvenates, hydrates the skin and of course cleanses.

It can also be used on hair by adding epsom salt to the conditioner in a 1:1 ratio. Particularly suitable for oilier hair where it can rid the hair of excess sebum and make the hair look fuller.
