NATU Banana Flour in organic quality is made from green bananas, called plantains, grown in sunny Sri Lanka. After peeling, the plantains are chopped, dried and then grinded into a fine powder.This is a simple way to create banana flour that can be used for everything from baking muffins to thickening soups. Some may be surprised by its light green colour. 

Why use green banana flour?

  1. It has a lower sugar content than flour made from ripe bananas. Young bananas are picked before they are ripe, so their sugar content is much lower than that of 'yellow' bananas.
  2. Banana flour is rich in fibre, especially prebiotic fibre.
  3. Due to its high starch content, you can use much smaller quantities of banana flour compared to conventional flours. 
  4. Banana flour has far less calories than most wheat flours and their alternatives such as oat or almond flour.
  5. Banana flour has a neutral mild flavour with nutty notes that will not affect the final taste of the food. You can therefore use it completely as a substitute for regular white flour in any dish. 
  6. It is naturally gluten-free and thus suitable for celiac patients.
